Cabot Agriculture Classes/Pathways
Cabot Agriculture Department
The basis for any successful Agriculture Program is the core upon which it is built.  The Cabot Agriculture Department offers each student "4" career pathways, the opportunity for concurrent/articulation credit for college, and just recently Certification by the Arkansas Green Industry Association.

Agriculture Career Pathways
Pathways are designed to assist student, parents, teacher, and counselors in creating a “personalized education plan.” Using students’ career interests and aptitude information, counselors and parents can help students develop a graduation plan that will provide purpose and relevance to their high school studies. A career pathway is a sequential progression of career and technical course electives that connect academic learning and career skills. This progression prepares students for entry into college, technical training, or the workforce. Pathways have a career theme which enables students to see the relationship between their academic subjects and their particular career goals.

A "Completer" is a graduating senior who has successfully met he course requirements for any Pathway with a minimum of three credits. Completers wear a blue and gold cord at graduation.  A student may be a Completer in more than one pathway.  Only one blue and gold cord will be awarded.  Being a completer is one of the highest honors that a student can receive in the Agriculture Department.

AGRICULTURE
The National FFA Organization is an integral part of the instructional program in Agriculture Education and an extension of the classroom instruction. All students enrolled in agriculture education are obligated to pay local, state, and national dues. Additionally, all students taking agricultural courses must complete a record book detailing work experience or agricultural projects completed by the student during the year.

PALS
PALS(Partners in Active Learning Support) is student organization that was founded through the National FFA Organization.  The program matches secondary agricultural students with elementary students (1 or 2 days a week) to help them get excited about school, explore their interests in plants and animals, and to develop their personal skills. Mentoring activities will center on building trust and developing a positive self-esteem through sharing and working together in a one-to-one relationship. This class is designed to provide stability, guidance and support to students. This role is a major commitment on the part of the students being selected, because they will be helping to build the human resource potential of a young child and themselves. The mentors will receive training from high school and elementary counselors, and agriculture teachers during class periods when the mentors are not working with elementary students.  Admittance in the PALS Program involves enrollment in Introduction to Horticulture/Greenhouse Management or Leadership & Communications/Floriculture and requires an application or teacher approval process.
